Youtube Analytics Set To Update Views & Revenue

Reading Time: 4 mins

YouTube is working on giving marketers and creators a more in depth analysis about video performance, including enhanced detailed reports on the sources of views and revenue.

Understanding the sources of income and the views for various video formats is needed by creators to ensure they target the best possible group with their content, marketers for personalised advertising and brands for an optimised UX.

In addition, Youtube will also be assisting creators further by providing reports on what is trending to help generate new video ideas.

Read on to find out more about the analytics data YouTube plans that is set to roll out later this year.

Helping creators with video ideas

Recently explained in a new video on YouTube’s Creator Insider channel, which offers a “sneak peak” at how these reports will provide data intended to generate new video ideas.

Youtube have recently launched an experimental tool showing the popularity of certain search terms and which video topics have a lack of content. This tool will be expanded to show which topics are trending on YouTube and which videos are starting to grow in popularity with your audience.

In addition, the tool will also provide ideas for new topics to help expand your audience with, whilst also resonating with your existing audience.

Some creators can already see certain search terms and their frequency in YouTube searches. YouTube’s overview then shows whether there is a so-called content gap for these popular keywords. However, since the platform itself has so much data available, it can certainly identify corresponding gaps or at least insufficient coverage of a topic.

Video view type will be broken down

The new update will also allow video creators to see where their views are coming from. Analytics tools are particularly valuable for creators to determine how they have been able to and are still able to generate followers, views and revenue.

Currently, all the views are counted as a single metric in an analytics report when you publish either a regular video, post Shorts or host livestreams. Instead, the new version of reports will include an overview of different video formats and views generated by each type.

These reports will include data on how many hours of video you uploaded, how many hours you streamed, how many views you received for each format, and more.

In the Creator Insider introductory video, they explain:

“We want to give you an overview of the different formats. So, for example, how much you uploaded and how much you live-streamed. Tell you about the views for each format, tell you about the overlap in audience between these different formats, and then let you dive into each format individually. So you can see the right analytics, whether it’s for regular videos or shorts or livestreams.”

View sales and revenue by format

In order for Youtube creators to be able to classify the performance and relevance of their content even better, YouTube would like to show them the earnings in a more differentiated way in the future.

Revenue data will be broken down by type of video, and how the revenue was generated. You’ll be able to see directly how much money you made by each video format.

Monetisation options themselves will also be more focused. Accordingly, options such as subscriptions, super chats, tagged products, etc, will be examined in more detail than before.

There’s no set timeline for when any of these new features will be rolled out on YouTube, however it has been promised that they will be worked on and released throughout the year.
