Use One Page Checkout to Improve Site-wide Conversion Rates

Reading Time: 4 mins

If you’re in the ecommerce sector, you’re no stranger to mulling over all of the things you can do to improve your conversion rate.

According to research, on average, 67% of online shopping carts are abandoned right before a user completes their transaction. That means that for every 100 people who proceed to the checkout process after having added products to their online cart, 67 of those people choose not to complete the purchase.

While there is no single reason for online shoppers to abandon their shopping carts part way through the checkout process, AspDotNetStorefront’s Smart One Page Checkout provides a simple solution to combat shopping cart abandonment rates.

There are two main reasons for this:

1. One page checkout simplifies the path to sale process by removing the ‘forgot your password’ step. It makes it easier for shoppers to purchase anonymously or to create an account quickly.

2. One page checkout shortens and simplifies the checkout process significantly. It keeps the user on one page, displaying all the important information in one place, reducing the need for the user to look elsewhere or hit he back button.

While Xanthos chooses to work with AspDotNetStorefront, the benefits of One Page Checkout are not exclusive. In fact, studies have shown that the fewer clicks to ‘checkout’, the higher your conversion rate will be. If you can’t do this, Kissmetrics advises that you at least give your shoppers a visual indicator of how far through the checkout process they have progressed. Amazon does this well. Here is an image showing exactly where I am in the checkout process…right near the end.

However, if you can afford to integrate one page checkout into your website, we highly recommend it. For those of our own clients that have implemented AspDotNetStorefront’s Smart One Page Checkout, on average each client has seen a 25% increase in sales.

Smart One Page Checkout Case Study

In December 2012, Xanthos implemented One Page Checkout for a client. The results were excellent, and in this instance, even better than usual, with a 67% improvement in conversion. This figure is derived by comparing the first 6 months of 2012 with the first 6 months of 2013. Bear in mind, Smart One Page Checkout was implemented in December. For both Xanthos and the client in question, this is a major success.

Take a look at the image below to see an example of what One Page Checkout looks like. For privacy purposes, we’ve blurred the company’s details. Speak to us if you’d like to find out more.

Note: as you complete each section, the next one expands. The page does not reload or refresh. Everything happens on just this one page.
