TikTok has announced a new portal for businesses to manage advertisements, which shows they are serious about becoming a platform for businesses to advertise and reach new audiences.
TikTok for Business is a good step towards making some real changes in the social media advertising space. It has grown a huge amount in a small space of time, and has become the new “cool” social media platform among young adults, teens and younger children.
TikTok is now the 6th largest social network with 800 million monthly active users. It is also the top downloaded app of 2020.

TikTok has had ads for some time, however there was no self-service platform initially which required a representivie and a signed insertion order in order to display ads on the platform.
TikTok for Business is a single portal for ad management, which will see more ad offerings roll out in the future.
As it stands, you can currently show the following forms of ads:
- Brand Takeovers
- Hashtag Challenges
- Branded Effects
- In-feed videos
TopView ads are ads shown when someone opens the app. This can be up to 60 seconds.
Brand takeovers are full-screen ads which are either images or videos – either 3-second JPG files or 5-second videos.
In-feed ads are full-screen ads which appear under the “For You” are of the app, which can last up to 60 seconnds. They appear as a normal post which users can engage with.
Branded hashtag challenges are created by businesses in order to promote engagement. Users can create response videos with a hashtag and they will be added to a single feed.
Branded effects is essentially a special effect which a brand has created, including filters and stickers unique to the brand in question.
